Background and Purpose: Family-professional partnerships are key indicators of implementing family-centered practices. Validation of the Chinese version of Family-Professional Partnership Scale (FPPS-C) provides useful measure of satisfaction with parternerships. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the FPPS-C Family and Professional Versions to assess parental and professional satisfaction with their partnerships.

Methods: A convenience sample of 167 parents with a child currently enrolled in early intervention programs completed the Family Version, and 200 early intervention professionals completed the Professional Version. Based on the factor structure determined by exploratory factor analyses, internal consistency was examined by Cronbach’s α coefficient and test–retest reliability was calculated using intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs). Construct validity was examined by Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient with parental and professional perceptions of family-centered service provision measured by the Measure of Process of Care for parent and service provider.

Results: The FPPS-C Family Version presented a single-dimensional sale and showed high internal consistency (α=0.98) and adequate test-retest reliability (ICCs=0.53). The FPPS-C Professional Version presented a three-factor structure and the overall and three subscales showed moderate to adequate internal consistency (α=0.57-0.89) and adequate to excellent test-retest reliabilities (ICCs=0.56-0.77). Construct validity of the scores for both versions were shown by significant and positive associations with parental and professional perceptions of family-centered service provision.

Conclusions: The study provides initial evidence of reliability and validity of the FPPS-C Family Version and Professional Version. This scale is useful to measure family-professional partnerships from the viewpoints of service users (i.e., parents) and providers (i.e., professionals).
